Caption: This chart shows the maximum daily water temperatures along the South Fork Salmon during the summer of 2002. Notice that the general trend is an increase in water temperature the further downriver it was recorded. Data were recorded near the headwaters of the South Fork @ Big Flat for a short period in August and September. In all locations except Blindhorse, water temperatures were in the range stressful to Salmonids during most of the summer. Data for this chart was derived from automated temperature sensors called Hobotemps, which were anchored in flowing water in the shade. Hobotemps were monitored by students at Forks of Salmon School, community volunteers, paid staff of the Salmon River Restoration Council, and the USFS.
