KRIS E. Marin Sonoma: Meta Information Page
This page contains detailed information about a data set in KRIS, including where the original data reside and how to contact the sources for the data. Data sets are linked to the appropriate page by means of the Meta Identifier. Many data sets can be linked to same page by sharing the same Meta Identifier.

One-time Purpose To identify factors limiting steelhead population Data Quality Information Electrofishing is quantitative but habitat typing follows non-standard methods. Use Constraints No electronic or raw data made available Supplemental Information Electrofishing was conducted on at least one representative of each habitat type for each creek, and except for Ross Creek, from 10-100% of each habitat type was sampled. Methods used included a Smith-Root Type 12 backpack, block nets, and three or more passes. Fish were identified to species, fork length, and weight. The physical dimensions of the habitat were also recorded to calculate the number of fish per square meter lf stream. Habitat typing was conducted using protocol from Bisson et al., 1992 and general descriptive measurements (see Appendix A). Dr. Alice Rich modified the habitat typing methodology to include artificial habitats created in urban and some coastal areas. Areas that were habitat typed included Corte Madera, San Anselmo, Cascade, and Sleepy Hollow Creeks. Ross and Fairfax Creeks were surveyed in a more cursory manner. Water temperature was monitored using 32 thermographs in representative areas of each stream reach in Corte Madera, San Anselmo, Cascade, Sleepy Hollow, and Ross Creeks. The thermographs were calibrated to record water temperature every ten minutes, 24 hours a day. Photographs were taken at each site on a weekly basis to monitor water and habitat conditions, and each thermograph was also checked weekly to ensure that it was working properly. Thermographs were also removed and replaced and their data downloaded on a monthly basis.
